NEWS: A rough draft of our SRS is up on our blog here.

Abstract:Students and faculty from Trinity College and University of Hartford are building a prototype application tracking system for Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford (LVGH). This open source system monitors student use of various literacy tutorial applications, storing data in a common database that can be used by LVGH staff to analyze student performance and produce reports. The system will be designed to be usable by other LV organizations. The deliverable for this project will be a deployable application with source code available on Sourceforge. Click here for the AppTrac page.

The goals of AppTrac are to:

  • Monitor usage of LVGH literacy software applications to better evaluate students' learning needs
  • Streamline current report generation capabilities for management

It will develop a single user interface capable of handling 3 different types of users: Students, Volunteers (instructors), and Administrators, which will allow access to the LVGH applications.

Students will be allowed to login, use applications, and logout. Volunteers will be allowed to use applications, check class progress, and generate reports Administrators will be allowed to use applications, check class progress, generate reports, create and edit users, and add new applications.

In the background, AppTrac will be recording information about each login: the user, whether the user was logged in as part of a group (class), or individually, what applications they used, and for how long. Sufficient reports will then follow, based upon administrator needs.
