Objectives:

  1. Start learning Linux.
  2. Become familiar with DrJava.
  3. Create and execute small Java program.

Pair Programming: Read the instructions on pair programming before lab.
  1. Locate your partner and introduce yourself:

  3. Watch the Pair Programming video (uses Flash) or Pair Programming in .mov format.
  4. Select one person to start as "driver". This person will type at the keyboard until the directions tell you to change.
  5. Proceed through each of the steps below in sequence. You may skip a step if you are already familiar with that step. Swap pairs and repeat each step with the opposite person as driver.

  3. FireFox and KWrite
  4. Installing and Running DrJava
  5. Your First Program
  6. CodeLab
  7. Post Lab
Before you leave, both partners must have:
  1. Set up their Linux account, created at least one directory and set the permissions on that directory.
  2. Installed DrJava and checked to see that it operates correctly.
  3. Successfully created and executed at least one Java program. This program must be stored in each student's space within the file system.
  4. Registered for and logged into CodeLab.
  5. Handed in the post-lab and your code.
