- Read Chapter 1 of Learning PHP/MySQL (14 pages) and answer
the questions at the end of the chapter. (Answers are
provided in the book's Appendix.)
- Read Chapter 2 of Learning PHP/MySQL (20 pages, with
lots of pictures.) Try to install Apache, PHP, and MySQL on
your personal computer. If you have problems or it doesn't
work, take notes (copy and paste error messages) and bring
them to class.
Due Wednesday, 1/30
- Finish installing Apache, PHP, and MySQL on
your personal computer.
- Read the Goertz article
Open Source Everywhere. Find one non-software "open" project
not mentioned in the article. Describe how it corroborates
Goertz's claim that "open source is doing for mass innovation what the
assembly line did for mass production". Be prepared to present and
discuss your find in class.
