The purpose of this assignment is to address the question: Should the U.S. Copyright Law be changed to make it more compatible with modern digital media and technology?
We have been reading and discussing Lawrence Lessig's book, Free Culture. In this assignment you are asked to make a persuasive case for your own thinking on this question.
Write a well-written, well-argued essay that takes a clear position, one way or the other, on the question of copyright law. Your essay should support its points with facts and evidence. The source of your facts and evidence should be properly acknowledged and cited in the paper. Your essay should provide a sustained argument that defends your position. That is, just as Lessig does in his book, you are trying to convince the reader of the correctness of your position on this issue. Like all well constructed arguments, you should anticipate and address some of the obvious counter arguments to your position.
Your paper should be 3 pages, double-spaced, around 750-1000 words, including references. The source of the information you discover should be accurately and completely cited in a standard bibliographic format.
I encourage you to talk with me and Chris about your position and how best to support it. You might ask a classmate or friend to read your essay and give you feedback on how well it supports your view.
